I have seen first hand how debilitating depression can be. I have watched friends, family, loved ones, and others struggle and suffer from this devestating disease. I have also witnessed people, trying to help, attemp to use personal development tactics in efforts to "snap" someone out of depression.
I applaud anyone who has the desire to help someone suffering from deppression! However, there are many different forms, levels, and types of depression and while some tactics may work for some, the same tactics could be deadly for others.
It can be very difficult for a depressed mind to even care about personal development, let alone see clearly enough to acknowledge any sort of benefit from said tactics. Instead, the suggestion of some personal development tactics can be received as being dismissive toward a depressed person's sufferings.
This is not to say that personal development tactics do not work. They can be very useful! I'm just saying that there may be a whole lot more involved in the healing process. Without proper knowledge, understanding, commitment, etc. of a person's level/type/form of depression common tactics that are used on a "normal" mind could have adverse effects on a depressed mind.
The psyche, in my opinion, is extremely powerful, delicate, and complicated. This is why there are trained professionals who study the psyche and depression and all it entails.
